Now in Ukraine there are sellers of cannabidiol oil, which can be used for medical purposes.
It has no psychoactive effect, but has many healing properties. We will talk about how cannabidiol helps reduce the symptoms of dangerous diseases and even help in their treatment. Also consider the legislative regulation of the distribution of the above-mentioned substances in Ukraine.
CBD – three letters, and how much benefit
Cannabidiol (CBD) is found in marijuana along with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and other 85 substances known to science. By itself, CBD does not possess the psychoactive properties for which THC is responsible. That is, its use does not entail changes in consciousness or perception. However, using marijuana CBD allows you to calm the body and get rid of unwanted panic attacks. It is produced in the plant during flowering.
The first studies of cannabidiol were conducted in the 1940s in the United States by the scientist Roger Adams, who was engaged in the study of plant alkaloids and fats. The professor, working with a substance, faced a legislative obstacle. In America, the “Marihuan Act” of 1937 operated, and the post-war period in the country was characterized by constant surveillance of the special services over the work of scientists.
Thanks to science, during 32 years many medical properties of CBD have been discovered. Clinical studies demonstrate that cannabioid can resist spasms, convulsions, epileptic and mental attacks, has anti-inflammatory properties, and also inhibits the development of cancer cells.
Cannabidiol affects the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body, being their antagonists. If THC is an agonist and “turns on” the receptors, CBD suppresses their work by removing the negative effects of marijuana. In addition, cannabidiol acts on opioid receptors. This is reported by scientists from ISMMS in New York, who cured rats of heroin addiction with food that added cannabidiol extract. While the other rodents who did not receive the medicine were looking for a dose.
Medical properties of CBD were discovered as far back as 1985. A patient with Parkinson’s disease was treated with a cannabidiol-based drug. As a result, the drug proved to be effective for controlling dyskinesias – disorders of the human motor functions.
In 2012, Brazilian medical scientists from the University of São Paulo and the National Institute of Translational Medicine in Brazil provided a report stating that CBD prevented experimental psychosis and is effective in clinical trials in schizophrenic patients with a remarkable safety profile. Research findings support the idea that cannabidiol may be used as an antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia in the future.
Effective proved substance in the treatment of epilepsy. So in December 2017, Dr. Kevin Chapman, associate professor of neuroscience and pediatrics at the University of Colorado, conducted an analysis of patients suffering from epilepsy, whose average age was 7 years. Patients took CBD. The scientist found that one third of patients felt an improvement – the number of seizures decreased by 50% or more. Side effects were observed in 47% of subjects: in 21% seizures became more frequent, in 14% fatigue and drowsiness appeared and only 10% had regression of the disease.
The report of the California Pacific Center for Medicine in November 2007 stated that a patient with breast cancer had a decrease in the spread of metastases. According to the report of doctors, cannabidiol blunted the work of the ID1 gene responsible for the formation of metastases.
In addition, it turned out that the drug based on marijuana is an antiseptic that can suppress methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This bacterium causes diseases such as sepsis, infective endocarditis and pneumonia. It is sufficiently resistant to most antibiotics.
So how are things to do with the medicine of the future in Ukraine?
The legal status of cannabidiol remains uncertain. It is not listed in the UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances. In the Ukrainian List of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursors, CBD falls under the “blurred” definition of “any parts of plants of the genus Cannabis”. In Canada, it is a controlled drug, and in the US it is a particularly dangerous drug that does not have a medical use. But in 2012, cannabidiol extracts obtained from industrial hemp began to enter the American market, which allows them to be distributed as “food substances” without restrictions.
